Yes, One Day service is available in this department.
How long does it take to issue certificates of business name registration?
The Certificate can be obtained within a maximum of 5 working days if the relevant application and accompanying documents are submitted correctly.
Should the original of the deed/ lease agreement/ rent agreement submitted for verification of the location of business be submitted along with the certified copy?
It will be compared with the certified photocopy and returned at the same time.
Who should certify that the deed/ lease agreement/ rent agreement is a true copy?
By a notary public.
Can you register any sole proprietorship or joint venture in the Western Province with the department?
Mainly in Timbirigasaya Divisional Secretariat Division and all other Divisional Secretariat Divisions of the province, business name registration is done in this department.
Is the National Identity Card compulsory for registration of Business Names?
A true copy of the owner’s national identity card or valid passport or valid driving license is required.
If the National Identity Card is lost/ misplaced/ illegible or submitted for renewal?
If lost or misplaced,
The report obtained from the Police Station Officer of the concerned domain should be submitted
In case of ambiguity,
Valid driving license / valid passport can be submitted for its verification along with National Identity Card.
When given to the Village Officer for readjustment,
Copy of receipt certified and issued by Village Officer.
Within how many days after starting the business should it be submitted for registration?
The business should be submitted for registration within a period of one month from the date of inception. Otherwise per delayed month Rs. A penalty fee of 500/- will be charged.
Who determines the delay charges for applications delayed to be submitted?
The general amount decided by the registrar is also charged by all divisional secretariats.

If there are any other documents as may be called for by the Registrar from time to time as per the rules dated 06.06.2023 of the Business Names Act, the applicant/applicants should submit the said documents.
